Getting Started
Planning an event or wedding can be an overwhelming task. Flower Child hopes to make the floral design element of your big day easier. Below is a brief guide to getting started with your floral and decor plan.
Choose a colour palette/theme
A colour palette and/or theme will help you focus your planning. You can begin to compile inspirational photos, research what types of flowers you like that grow in your colour palette, and see how other aspects of your event can be tied into the florals (i.e.: bridesmaid dresses, cake, invitations, etc.).
Consult with
your venue
Be sure to talk to, or preferably do a decor focused site visit, with your event venue to determine what decor will work in the space. Some venues have restrictions on where and how you can attach florals, when the florist can arrive on site for set up, and what types of flower varieties you can use. Flower Child is happy to accompany clients on site visits to take measurements and get a feel for your venue.
Determine your budget
Please consider what you would like to spend on the florals for your event - Flower Child can then provide examples of how your budget can work with the florals you've envisioned. Flower Child often will suggest similar flower varieties for clients to create a similar look at a lower cost.
Decide on the quantity of flowers
Now comes the fun part!
It's time to decide on what types of florals you want for your event and the number of designs you need. For your reference, please scroll further down this page for an example order of the common florals requested for a wedding. Flower Child will make suggestions to ensure you remember everything, and note the traditions surrounding florals at special events.
Consider the time
of year
The time of year of your event will impact your florals. Some flower varieties are only available at certain times each year or are very expensive when they are out of season. Certain flowers are much heartier in cold weather. Flower Child will help guide you to choose the best flowers for the season.
